Secondary Mathematics Chapter

The Secondary Mathematics Chapter champions quality learning in mathematics by building teacher capacity, encouraging pedagogical innovations and facilitating research-informed practice to impact student learning. It aims to build a culture of professionalism and pride in the teaching of mathematics. Besides upholding professional standards in mathematics, the Secondary Mathematics Chapter will serve as a focal point for mathematics teachers to collaborate and network. Through partnerships with various MOE divisions and external partners, the Secondary Mathematics Chapter seeks to raise the professional standards in the learning and teaching of mathematics in Singapore.

Objectives of the Secondary Mathematics Chapter

A key focus of the Secondary Mathematics Chapter is building teachers’ capacity in pedagogical content knowledge and subject matter knowledge in the teaching and learning of Secondary Mathematics. As a catalyst for professional growth, it facilitates classroom research and helps teachers to make connections in the theory-practice nexus.

A special announcement:

In promoting STEM education among our teachers, 49 team advisers were engaged in sustained professional learning to mentor their team of students for the International Mathematical Modelling Challenge (IM²C) 2021.
Hwa Chong Institution has emerged as one of two top teams, out of 51 teams from 27 countries/regions, to be accorded the Outstanding Award in the international round of IM²C. This is the second consecutive win in IM²C for Singapore. Victoria School was accorded the Honorable Mention award.
