Profile
Prior to joining ELIS (MOE), Dr Lucy Fernandez taught at both the primary and secondary levels as well as at higher education at the National Institute of Education, Singapore. She obtained her BA (Hons) from the University of Otago, New Zealand (English and English Literature) and her MSc in Applied Linguistics and Language Acquisition from the University of Oxford, UK. While at school, Lucy held various positions and was involved in the professional development of teachers in various areas as well as spear-headed numerous initiatives and programmes. In 2009, she was conferred the President’s Award for Teachers.
At NIE, Lucy has served in various roles, including Assistant Dean, Programme Co-ordinator and Senior Teaching Fellow and has taught across myriad programmes, from the undergraduate and post-graduate levels to leadership and professional development courses for educators. Her teaching and research interests included English Language Teaching, Differentiated Instruction, Student Voice, Curriculum Leadership and Teacher Professional Development. In 2012 and 2016, she was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award from NIE. In 2017, she was awarded the highly-regarded Nanyang Education Award from NTU, and is a recipient of the international EIU Best Practice Award from APCEIU, Korea (UNESCO Category 2 Centre).
