Adjunct Teachers (Primary and Secondary)

 

Schools Division is looking for retired educators to work with schools to provide school-wide integrated support for Primary and Secondary students with risk factors or demonstrating at-risk behaviours. Retired Ps, VPs, KPs and LTs are preferred, as they are required to lead and coordinate the planning, implementation, monitoring, and review of school programmes and partnerships.

Details are as follows:

Job Description

The candidate will be engaged as a Contract/ Flexi-Adjunct Teacher. Due to the nature and scope of work, the hours of work are not confined to curriculum hours for classroom teaching or for CCA duties, and could be after school or during school holidays if required. 

The candidate’s job scope will include working with the school team to:

  • Identify and monitor high-needs students, including conducting needs assessment and analysis, following up on students who need greater support, e.g. referral for counselling
  • Coordinate the planning, implementation and evaluation of school-based programmes for high-needs students, which may include supporting the customisation of the academic curriculum
  • Oversee or conduct specific pastoral care, guidance and motivational programmes for high-needs students after school hours and during school holidays. This could include: 
    • Setting up and maintenance of physical spaces
    • Organization and administration of activities 
    • Tracking and monitoring of students’ attendance and well-being 
    • Following up on students who need further support 
  • Engage community partners to conduct programmes or provide support for high-needs students
  • Conduct evaluation of school efforts and outcomes of high-needs students

The candidate’s scope of work will be decided by the school. Remuneration will be based on HR guidelines and candidate can be appointed up to SEO 1 depending on candidate’s last appointment before retirement and the scope of work given. 

Requirements

The candidate must believe in our mission and have the passion to help high-needs students turn around; willing to be a committed and consistent adult figure to guide and mentor high-needs students.

The candidate should possess the following attributes:

  • Cares for students and is passionate about working with children/youth
  • Relates well to and builds good rapport with students, addressing their social-emotional needs
  • Is knowledgeable about the different phases of child/youth development
  • Has the relevant experience and is equipped with the skills and competencies to handle the increasingly complex needs of children/youth
  • Is able to plan and/or facilitate programmes effectively 
  • Able to work with parents, VWOs and engage community partners to support students

Commitment Period

Commitment Requirement:

  • Contract Adjunct or Flexi-adjunct. 
  • Services will be renewed based on good performance. 
  • Commencement date of service to be confirmed by schools.

HQ Presiding Examiners (HQ PEs)

SEAB would like to invite retired or former Education Officers to join them as a HQ Presiding Examiner (HQ PE). 

The main responsibility of the HQ PE is to perform invigilation duties during the national examinations/non-national examinations/tests. The HQ PE will have to ensure the security of the examinations/tests that he/she is assigned to conduct. He/She is to conduct the examinations/tests according to the rules and regulations as determined by SEAB.

Appointed HQ PEs will be required to attend a compulsory briefing and training session before the start of the examination/test.

Period of Engagement: February 2020 to December 2020

SEAB would like to invite retired or former Education Officers to join them as a HQ Marker. 

HQ Markers would mark candidates’ examination papers. They would need to understand the assessment requirements of the subject and apply these consistently in the marking.

Appointed HQ Markers would need to attend a compulsory meeting before the start of the marking project, and other meetings as required. They are required to mark a stipulated number of scripts per day in accordance with the Mark Scheme, and assist in any other duties that may arise.

  1. Retired or former Education Officer from the Ministry of Education, and
  2. Previous experience in teaching the subject.

The HQ Oral Examiner would need to understand the process and marking criteria for the oral examination and apply the mark scheme consistently in the conduct of the oral examination.

Appointed HQ Oral Examiners would need to attend a compulsory standardisation meeting before the start of the oral examination and is required to test a stipulated number of candidates per day. They may be required to assist in any other duties that may arise.

Period of Engagement: July 2020 to September 2020

Requirements

  1. Retired or former Education Officer from the Ministry of Education, and
  2. Previous experience in teaching the subject.

Appointed HQ Setters will need to attend a compulsory briefing before commencing on assignment. Thereafter, they may be required to attend moderation meetings as necessary.

Period of Engagement: February 2020 to December 2020

Requirements

  1. Retired or former Education Officer from the Ministry of Education, and
  2. Previous experience in teaching and item setting for the subject.
